Winning Wednesday! 4/22/20

Good Morning Earthlings!

I am delighted to tell you that we came in

2nd place in the Lexia Core5 contest and

2nd place in the Mobymax contest!

I’m not sure if we get any prizes for 2nd but out of 46 classrooms, rm 289 has been very impressive!

A new contest for both of these started Monday so continue to get your minutes in!

Last week, we had a very amazing nine students that had signed on to Mobymax from our room!

Awesome sauce!! I tell you! Half the class was working!!!

Today, all your work is posted on Schoology.

You can login on Clever and then go to Schoology app. If you don’t have it – go to self service and install it. Once you are on Schoology – look in assignmemts- you should have a folder for 4/20-24 and in that folder , a file for each day. Open up the day you want to work on. Open ELA folder, complete each assignment. Then go to the IB folder, do those assignments and finally to math and do those assignments.

To complete Some of the work, you might need to travel to a different app and some of the work can be completed right there in Schoology and submitted.

If you  are having  problems, I can face-time you or have a Zoom conference with you. Just let me know!

Be patient – this is all new! One step at a time! We will all get through this!

I will be at Makowski today handing out your iPads!

I leave you with this poem I wrote:

Ode to the kiddos of Room 289

I went to our room, it said 289-so very, very fine

But how could that be, no smiles for me to see!

It just wasn’t right, no one to hug me tight!

So I thought you should know, wherever I go

You’re the buttons to my bows, the scent to my rose

You are the peanut butter  to my jam,  the Swiss  cheese  on the ham

You’re the shoes to my socks, the key to my locks

You’re the needle to my thread, the butter on my bread!

You’re the up to my down and you put the smile in my frown

Soon we’ll be together , I can’t say it any better

You’re the horse to my cart

And you’re the love in my heart!

We go together!

Thankful Thursday 4/30/20

As we finish this month of April, we are still uncertain of so many parts in our lives. There are many questions that cannot be answered quickly. One thing I am certain of- I am blessed with an amazing group of third grade students. Can you believe in the last seven days that 12 out of our 18 students were logged into Clever?! To me that is wonderful! We all have many different circumstances in our lives right now and yet 2/3 of our class got on Clever!!

I am also thankful for the people who have continued to work outside the home during this time. I know it’s not easy to deal with people, especially when the people are nervous and stressed. Thank you for providing so many essential services!

Thank you to all of you- parents, guardians, and students! We will get through this together!

I know for some families, it is difficult for your student to complete the assignments on my blog. I understand. If you find yourself in that situation, I recommend encouraging your child to go to Clever and spend 20 mins in Lexia Core5, Mobymax Math and Mobymax Science. Chances are your student wants to play some type of video game or go outside and play. Use the time spent on Clever so that they can earn the reward that they choose. Set a timer and go! 20 mins on Core 5 – ding – now you get a 20 min break!

Just this small strategy alone will build intrinsic motivation skills that your student will need in the remaining grades of their education.

Once they mastered this routine, my blog is here to guide you with more directed learning and a huge thanks to the parents/guardians and their studentswho have kept up the pace of the assignments on the blog!  Job well done!!

Please know, I am here to help you with whatever you need – technology, learning, etc. Just reach out —

🙏🏽❤️MC

Happy Thursday! 4/16/20

EXPECTATIONS

What are expectations?  Expectation is the act of looking forward to something.

We all have expectations. Each and every day, we look forward to something happening depending on the day. Right now, it’s harder to imagine things to look forward to because we are stuck in our homes, staying away from other people.

As your teacher, I challenge you to change your expectations for now. I encourage you to create a list of things to look forward to right now. Maybe it’s watching a cartoon program, playing a video game, playing with a sister or brother, reading, drawing, helping an adult with cooking, anything.

Now, pick one idea as a reward for today. Logon to Mobymax or Core5, set a timer for 20 minutes and get to work! When that timer rings – you get to do whatever you picked! You can feel proud of your accomplishment and do something you enjoy!

If you follow this routine for all your work, you will build great study habits that will help you all the way through middle school and high school!

Welcome to Wacky Wednesday! 4/29/20

You puzzled it out!Welcome! I’m so happy you are reading this! We have a lot of exciting things to do today. Who likes puzzles? Who likes jokes? Who likes riddles? Today we will try to solve many different questions! 🧐🤪😜

We are starting topic B in math today and it is all about shapes. Shapes make me think of tangram puzzles. Tangrams are pictures that you fill in with pieces. There is a game on Math Playground to practice your tangram skills. You can turn the pieces around with the circular arrow and flip the pieces with the line. Try it out and see how far you can get!
