Today, we will be learning more about that picture I posted on Tuesday. It is a fossil and specifically, it is called a trilobite. There is a dig site in Hamburg,NY called Penn Dixie where you can go dig your own Fossils on the ground. If your parents ever want someplace to take you, I recommend spending a day at Penn Dixie looking for your very own Fossils! Click on the picture to see their website.

Let learn a bit more about Fossils:

As always, mhead on over to Mobymax Science on your iPad and look for the lesson called:

What is a fossil? And what does it tell us?

What can Fossils tell us about extinct plants and animals?

Please work today, tomorrow and this weekend, finishing up your assigned Science lessons for this week, if you haven’t already done them.

Math

Your math assignment today is to complete a Nearpod on perimeter of polygons:

Clever, Nearpod,

nearpod   Code:  MNTQ

Remember to watch for the full moon tonight! The Native Americans called it the Strawberry Moon, not because it’s pink but because you can harvest wild strawberries this time of year. Have you ever gone strawberry picking? Well, that’s a story for another day!

Have a great afternoon! 🍓🍓🍓 MC

Today, we are going to examine extinct and endangered species. Watch this to learn more:

To practice what you just learned, go to Mobymax Science and complete the lesson on extinct species and the one on endangered species. Try taking the test at the end and see how you do. Remember, you are reading with a purpose!

Math

Sometimes in math, we know the answer or solution but we don’t know one of the numbers that make the problem true.

For example, look at this problem:

4 + 6 + S + 4 = 20

We know 20 is the solution to the addition problem but we have to find out or solve what “S” is equal to. 6In this problem, we call S – the unknown – simply because we don’t know it!

When you do a bit of addition, you find that

14 + S = 20

So we know if we add 6 to 14 to get to 20, our problem will be true. S must be equal to 6.

So today, you will using this same concept with polygons and finding their perimeter. We may Be missing a side length, but we know that is a part of a whole number that we doknow.  You will need to find the missing length(s).

Watch this:

Now practice with these:

That’s all for today! See you tomorrow! 🐬MC

Howdee Partners!

How is everyone today? I hope you got outside yesterday for some of that beautiful fresh air! If you did, you might have been lucky and found something like the picture above in a rock. Post a comment if you know what these are called – there may be two answers!

Today, we are reading Chapter 6 in Pax. Please make sure you are caught up with all 6 chapters since we will discuss it at our class meeting on Wednesday. I think I’ve got technology working so we shouldn’t have any problems. I have a meeting from 10:00-11:00  to discuss your 4th grade classes so the class meeting will be at 11:30.

Last week, we examined what rocks and soil are made of. Yesterday, we began by looking at layers of the earth. Now we are going to examine what we can find buried in the earth and the scientists that study these things called Fossils.  Watch this:

Now go to Mobymax Science and make sure you have finished the lesson on layers of the earth. If you have, then go on to What is a fossil.

Math

I have been seeing some excellent work on perimeter and area. SHOUT OUT to Raein for his great math work yesterday!

Today you can practice more on this Nearpod:

Code:  NXSWI

Just login to Clever, go to Nearpod and type in the code!

Have an enjoyable afternoon! 😎MC

Mars or the Moon Monday 6/1/20

Good Morning Earthlings!

Did you get to see the rocket launch on Saturday?

It took two astronauts to the International Space Station. Both these men are Dads and they have boys about your age. Their job is that they are test pilots which means they are flying this new spacecraft dragon for the first time.

Watch this video to see a tour of the International Space Station. Maybe one of you will grow up to be an astronaut or a test pilot?

You could even be one of the many people on the ground in mission control. Mission control is the room where the people sit at their computers and control remotely all the parts of the spacecraft.

Here are some fun puzzle sheet for you to do, if you like!

For I.B., today we are looking at our planet

Can you tell what continent you are looking at in this image? Post it in the comments!

We are going to learn a bit about the layers that make up this beautiful blue ball that we call home!

Now to show what you know, go to Mobymax science and complete the Layers of the earth lesson.

Math

We continue to work on the concept of perimeter. Perimeter is a measure of all lengths surrounding a polygon.

After watching this video, try solving the following problems. Remember to Read-Draw-Write.

Now go outsideand run around! Stretch your muscles, breathe fresh air, enjoy the sunshine! Look up at the sky and imagine yourself flying in the International Space Station as a famous astronaut from Buffalo, NY!

I believe you can achieve your dreams! ❤️MC
