Thankful Thursday 4/30/20

As we finish this month of April, we are still uncertain of so many parts in our lives. There are many questions that cannot be answered quickly. One thing I am certain of- I am blessed with an amazing group of third grade students. Can you believe in the last seven days that 12 out of our 18 students were logged into Clever?! To me that is wonderful! We all have many different circumstances in our lives right now and yet 2/3 of our class got on Clever!!

I am also thankful for the people who have continued to work outside the home during this time. I know it’s not easy to deal with people, especially when the people are nervous and stressed. Thank you for providing so many essential services!

Thank you to all of you- parents, guardians, and students! We will get through this together!

I know for some families, it is difficult for your student to complete the assignments on my blog. I understand. If you find yourself in that situation, I recommend encouraging your child to go to Clever and spend 20 mins in Lexia Core5, Mobymax Math and Mobymax Science. Chances are your student wants to play some type of video game or go outside and play. Use the time spent on Clever so that they can earn the reward that they choose. Set a timer and go! 20 mins on Core 5 – ding – now you get a 20 min break!

Just this small strategy alone will build intrinsic motivation skills that your student will need in the remaining grades of their education.

Once they mastered this routine, my blog is here to guide you with more directed learning and a huge thanks to the parents/guardians and their studentswho have kept up the pace of the assignments on the blog!  Job well done!!

Please know, I am here to help you with whatever you need – technology, learning, etc. Just reach out —

🙏🏽❤️MC

What’s Trending Tuesday? 4/28/20

Good Morning Earthlings! Is there anybody out there?

I know Raein, Khloe, Aziz and Jayanna have been submitting assignments but I miss everyone else! Where are you? Please let me know if you can see these assignments. Also, what I can do to help with technology so you can submit assignments.

Today, we are still working on Sarah, Plain and Tall. Your job today is to answer L21 HOTS question #2. The assignment is in Schoology. Logon through Clever. Go to HR virtual school course, materials,  week of 4/27, Tuesday, ELA Core Block.

If you can’t get through to Schoology – the question is…

gr_3_l_21_cr_student (2) – for merge

What do paragraphs 2 and 3 show about Papa? Please give two text details in your response.

Also, remember RATS :

R – Restate the question

A – Answer the question

T- provide two text details – see poster below for ideas

S- sum it all up by saying” In conclusion, —————”

So,  to answer the HOTS question, your first sentence would restate the question and answer thenquestion. Then, using these sentence starters, you would have 2 sentences just for the evidence. Each would begin with one of the starters. Your final and at least 4th sentence would be the summary of conclusion.

Let’s all try to write a COMPLETE text response today!
If you are confused, just ask! 😉

For phonics today, you may want to review the videos from yesterday. Complete page 89 in Reader’s Notebook. It is a fill in the blank on Schoology or you can read it here and just write down the answers on a piece of paper.

base word and -ed, -ing p.89

For vocabulary, continue to work on the words from yesterday. Then, practice in study stack by playing thec rossword game.

study stack lesson

In Math today, you will complete the exit ticket for mod 7 Lesson 3. Logon on to formative app through Clever. Complete the 3.7.A.03.

Today in I.B., we will read a text explaining how to classify invertebrates based on their traits.

Classifying Invertebrates

and you can learn this song:

For practice, logon to Mobymax Science and complete the lesson in your assignments called: Traits of invertebrates.

Spend 20 minutes on Lexia Core5 and 20 minutes on MobyMax Math today too!

Enjoy the sunshine! I hear we are due for some more rain but I can feel the spring coming. Have you noticed how light it is so much later at night?

Question of  the day: What time will the sun set today and rise tomorrow morning? Post your answer in the comments.

Have an awesome day! 🥳MC

It’s a Terrific Thursday! March 26, 2020

It’s a D day! Time for gym:

(oops!, I made a mistake already! It’s supposed to be music today! Coming tomorrow – MUSIC!)

It’s also supposed to be a nice day in the morning so see if you can get your family to go for a walk!

Let’s get to the work of the day:

Reading and Science: I have created an assignment in Newsela on Clever. You will need to find the Newsela app in your clever directory. This link might work:

Assignment

It is called Heredity. You can complete the tasks right in Newsela and your answers will be sent to me. Let me know if this technology is working – can you read the article? Can you respond?

Also, continue to spend 20 mins on your math tab in Mobymax today! If you are entered in our tournament – Good Luck to your team! You have until Tomorrow – Friday – to win!

😉 MC

Mobymax Team Game!

Mobymax logo
I started a team game on Mobymax with my students who have recently logged in to Mobymax. The computer will assign you to a team when you log in. This will be a test to see how team games work on Mobymax. Let me know what you think!

If you aren’t assigned to the game and want to be, just post a comment “add me please!” and I will get you in the game!

It’s Wacky Wednesday! March 25, 2020

Today is a C day so the special is art! Look at the end of my post for some art ideas.

How is everyone doing on Clever? I heard we had some login problems with Lexia Core5. Can you post and let me know who can get into Core5 and who can’t, please?

Continue today with 20 mins on MobyMax, 20 minutes on Core5. If you can’t get on Core5, please read on MyOn for 20 minutes.

Also, we are starting to look at how plants adapt so that they can live in all different types of places with different climates.

Spring has begun!

Larisa-K / Pixabay

Today, your assignment is to look outside for any signs of spring. Are there any new shoots from the ground? Are there buds on trees? Do you hear different sounds – birds, squirrels, etc? What do you notice about the trees?
After you explore, come back here and tell us about it. If you’re lucky enough to have a phone, take a picture of your evidence and post the picture in the comments.

Now read about plants. Read the Introduction, Starting to Grow and Plant Parts sections of this article:

Plants

Once you’ve read it, try playing this game. A couple are very tricky!

Plant Game

And here is your art work:

or you can draw my new favorite salamander, Bruni!

Happy Terrific Tuesday! March 23, 2020

Good Morning my kiddos!

How did yesterday go? We’re you able to log onto Clever? A little bird told me Jayanna enjoyed gym today so I hope there are others that enjoyed it also!

Today is B day. On B days, we have Chinese. Here is a video about Panda Bears (B day for Bear, get it?😊) for you to watch:

And here is one about The Great Wall of China:

Next, you will logon onto Clever and go to Lexia Core 5. Work at your level for 20 minutes today. This will help me determine what lessons to make for all of you!

Now, continue working on MobyMax on the math tab. Spend 20 minutes on it today! Set a timer and it will fly by!

Last item for our B day is an article about Bioluminescent Mushrooms, or glow-in-the-dark fungus. We will be using this article for a project for this week. Today, read the article and watch attached videos.

Mushroom Article

QOTD: Using what you know about context clues in my introduction to the mushroom article, what is the definition of “bioluminescent”?
