Happy Thinking of Summer Thursday! 5/21/20

Good Morning! It was great to see some of my kiddos on Lifesize yesterday for our class meeting! Everyone agreed that we would rather drink sour milk than brush our teeth with soap! Hahaha! I hope YOU can join us next Wednesday at 11:00 for our next meeting! We will be having a special guest join us! Shhhh! It’s a secret!

Today, you just have a few things to finish up and you can get outside for some fresh air ( if Mom says it’s ok!)!

Please answer this question:

Lets think about what this question is asking. The question is about a character. Who is the character?

They want to know how his feelings change from the beginning to the end. What feelings? His feelings about the island. Now answer the questions in the graphic organizer to help you construct your response.

Once we have identified how he felt, we can use what he said or did as the evidence.

For example:

At the beginning of the story, Manu felt___________ about the island. I know this because he said”_________________” . At the end, his feelings changed and he felt ______________. I know this because he (did or said) ________________. Manu’s feelings changed from the beginning to the end because  _______________________. I know this because ___________ ( insert your evidence, your why). In conclusion, Manu ___________(restate the question).

  1. Manu’s fellings change from mad to sad and to happy on page 317 it says everyone except manu began excitedly about the other new things they had discovered.

  2. Reading:
At the begining of the story, Manu felt sad to leave his friends. He didnt like the island that much. In the text it says, that manu was not sure if he will see his friends again. It also says he missed the old things like coconuts. At the end of the story, manu enjoyed being at the island because he found different cool things and animals. In the text it says, that manu found a seal and enjoyed swimming with it. Manus feelings changed because he got to see new things. This is why manus feelings changed for the island.

  3. Science:
    1. If it is too hot, the glacier will melt
    2. 1950 – 5 inches

    2006 – 2.5 inches
    2011 – .5 inches
    3. The numbers are getting smaller
    4. I think it is getting hotter so the glaciers are melting
    5. I can show them melting when it is too hot and not melt and stay ice when it is cold
