Good Morning! It’s a Make It Monday! 👐🏽

Good Monday Morning! It’s so exciting! Another week of this crazy virtual school! It is getting closer to the end of the year!

At the end of this week, it’s Memorial Day – the unofficial beginning of summer! Next weekend will be a three day weekend with no instruction on Monday, May 25th and then, there’s only 3 1/2 weeks until the last day of instruction – June 17th! 🌞🏖🦀😎

Today for make-it Monday, we’re going to start with a directed drawing of our mascot – The Makowski Bee:

or something a little more challenging – Baby Yoda!

Now on to the assignments! Woohoo!

This week, in reading, we will read a new story in Journeys. You can also use this link and go to page 313 in here. The story is called Dog-of-the-Sea Waves. D

Do your best to read the story out loud. If you come to a word you can’t decode or pronounce, just write the word down and say “blank” in place of the word. When you are finished reading, take a few minutes to look up the words and then not down their meanings. Here is a dictionary for you:.   dictionary

Hello! It’s Traveling Tuesday! 5/12/20

Why? You guessed it! It’s  a very special day because it’s Traveling Tuesday because you read the story yesterday about Oliver K. Woodman. If you didn’t or would like to hear it again. Watch…

I thought it would be fun to make a map of Oliver’s journey to visit Tameka. You will need to use your geography skills that we learned earlier in the year.

Here is a map of The United States with Uncle Ray’s house and Tameka’s house marked on it. Your job is to  fill-in the places where Oliver stopped on his journey. One way you can do this is: You can view the map and take a screenshot of it by pressing the home button and power button at the same time. Then you can write on the map by touching the picture and then touching the pen.

Link to Map

Second assignment today: What if Oliver K. Woodman stopped at your house? Using at least 4 sentences. Write a note to Tameka telling her what Oliver might have done with you. I’ll give you my example:

Dear Tameka,

We heard a loud knocking onmour door last night. We found Oliver K. Woodman, hungry and cold, in the dark on our front porch. We brought him inside and shared some pizza and diet Coke with him! Then we put him in our neighbor’s truck and sent him to the airport. I hope he gets to you in Redcrest, CA.

Yours, Ms. Cullen and family, Buffalo, NY 14208

You can type your note in a post here or you can write it and send me a picture! I can’t wait to hear about OK’s visits!

It’s a flashback Friday! Can you believe it’s been  8 months since we became a class! It seems so long ago when we used to play outside! I miss our Huddle’s around the bench before you all wildly ran into the playground!

Remember our first field trip? When we went to Explor N More?

Wow! That seems like last year! Oh yeah! It was!

It is also a Fun Friday so how about a puzzle?

DON’T forget MOBYMAX MATH!

Some of my superstars are getting a little lazy and haven’t been on Mobymax math – It’s feeling a little left out!

Taco Tuesday – Happy Cinco de Mayo! 5/5/20

Hola! It’s amazing because it’s Cinco de Mayo ( the 5th of May) and it falls on a Tuesday which is Taco Tuesday at Ms. Cullen’s house! Mostly because I love tacos! And burritos! And nachos! And empanadas!

Since my children were all born in South America, we eat a lot of Hispanic and Colombian food at our house!   and with my son Curt and my daughter Christina living at home with me, we are going to have a Cinco de Mayo party tonight!

First we will have empanadas which are pockets of dough filled with potatoes and beef. We dip these into a very spicy sauce called ahi. Then, we will have Ajaico which is a chicken and potatoes soup with cilantro. Cilantro is a spice used in a lot of Hispanic cooking. To go with the Ajaico, there has to be rice! For desert, we will probably have a flan which is a type of baked custard! Yum! I can hardly wait! Are you celebrating Cinco de Mayo? Do you know why Cinco de Mayo is an important day in Mexico? Do some research and find out…

Onward to today’s lessons!

Reading

Find a teddy bear, a sister or a brother, a parent or grandparent and practice your reading! Read The Migration out loud to whoever you can get to listen. It’s important to practice reading out loud! It helps grow new connections in your brain and then you will have them for the rest of your life!

Good Morning! Good Morning!

How are you? How are you feeling? How is your family? I never thought this is what we’d be doing in May when we started together in September!

You have been working so hard to figure out this new way of school! I have been trying different ways to make it easier for you to learn this way. I guess we are doing pretty good together because we get to have virtual school for the rest of the year!

This week I’m going to try something a bit different. There’s a new program on Clever called Edcite. We are going to use that for recording some of our answers. Let’s see how that works!

We had a new winner on Lexia last week for the most minutes…

Congrats to Mikhail Werts! WTG!
