It’s a FUN FRIDAY FESTIVAL!

Good Morning!

Today, we celebrate our first week of “virtual” school! “What?” you ask “is virtual school”? Virtual school is what we will talk about for a long time. It will be a story that you can tell your baby/younger sisters and brothers about when they are in third grade. It will become the year we didn’t have to go to school in April to learn but had school at home!

Please remember, to keep safe, wash your hands!

Friday is for exploring fun learning games – then, over the weekend, you can have something new to keep you busy! If you haven’t memorized your multiplication facts yet (ok, Joseph and Mikhail, you have! 😉), you might want to play:

Times Table Games

Fun Brain Games

and to practice what we learned about government during the past three weeks, you can use this site to answers questions. When you receive a badge – take a picture and post it in the comments here, please!

QOTD: What is something you are looking forward to in the near future or even in May when we are all back in school?        😉 MC

Wake Up! It’s Wednesday!

Good Morning earthlings from 289!

I’m posting this from my living room because today is my first day at home (now I’m similar to where you have been for 4 long days). It feels very strange – almost like we are aliens living on another planet but…we’re not! We are still earthlings!

It will be sad not to see you for a few weeks but I hope you will read this and comment to me every day during the week. Today we are going to finish reading The Albertosaurus Mystery together.

First, explain to your big person what we learned in the beginning of this story. Now open your big Journeys book and find the page where we stopped – remember it has a picture of a picture in it. We were discussing Barnum Brown and how he hunted bones. Watch this short video about him:

Now finish reading the story to your big person or your favorite stuffed animal (It’s fun to learn at home!)

And check out this 44 million year old bird fossil!

and our own local place to dig for fossils:

Please post an answer to the QOTH – Question of The Day – In what type of rock am I most likely to find fossils? (Hint: look in a link).  “See” you tomorrow!

Happy Tuesday Morning!

Hello! How are all of you doing in your new “homeschool”? Have you set up an area to work? If you haven’t that’s ok because today, we are going to organize your home “desk”.

All you need is an area where any younger brothers and sisters, pets, and even nosy older siblings won’t disturb you. It can be an actual desk or it could just be a section of a table, a corner of a room or even an old “box” for a portable desk (this is what I’d choose!)

When you receive your orange bag from Makowski, you can set up your things. There’s a Journey’s book, a whole bunch of packets and your math module. Take a look at each piece and put them in order. Order, what order?

You can follow our schedule at school:

Reading – Journey’s vol.2 and reader’s notebook copies

IB – copies of Science lessons

Math – copies of FinishLine books and Module 5

There are also a few crayons, a pencil and a glue stick to get you started!

There you have it – Congrats! You have organized your temporary school.

Now go wash your hands! And read this book! 😉 MC

Well it was the first day in the classroom with no students! It was very quiet but it felt like you were all still there. Your pencil cases were waiting to be filled with treats and only 2 students didn’t have their 5 pencils. I’m so proud of all of you!

Hopefully, tomorrow you will somehow receive work packets that we put together today for you. I’m sending a letter home for your parents about this blog so I’m hoping you will find it. If you talk to one of our 289 students, make sure they know how to get to this!

Today, I’m posting a video for you from the Cincinnati Zoo about their 2 hippos – Bebe and Fiona. See if you can find out what a group of hippos is called. If you figure it out, post a comment below and let me know. Hoping you are all healthy and safe!

We’re live at Hippo Cove for our first Home Safari with everyone’s favorite hippo, Fiona! Pay close attention! You’ll find the answers to this fun quiz throughout the video: https://form.jotform.com/200726237919156. Complete the quiz to be entered to win four tickets to the Cincinnati Zoo to visit once we’ve reopened! Join us each day at 3pm EDT as we highlight different animals that call the Cincinnati Zoo home.

Children

Hello Students!

Welcome to your brand new class blog at Edublogs!

Together, we are going to learn how to blog on the internet within our class. In case we are separated by distance, we will not be separated in thought. We will continue talking through this blog.
Each day, I will post what you should be working on. You will be able to write back and even post pictures of your work.

We will be learning this together so don’t worry if we all make mistakes – that is just proof that we are learning!   😉 MC

Like more help?

We can walk you through step-by-step in our guide to getting started with your blog.
